Search the Internet for "artificial retina".

I saw a video which show researcher wear a bunch of electrode, has his eyes covered but able to see. Is this real? How does it work? Has anyone manufacture this? I would love to be able to watch video, or be able to work with computers while my eyes are closed / covered. If it is possible to make this into a helmet, I would love to purchase one provide that it is not too expensive. This device would be handy for some people with vision problem. If there is a way to integrate this device with a virtual keyboard, we may not need to touch the physical keyboard when we type, which would avoid carpel tunnel syndrome.

How does Stanford brain scan work? How does Stanford vision research work?
