What is Trello?

Trello is a project management tool. Perhaps, Trello has its root as a project management tool for software development, however, it can be use as a project management tool for any kind of project. It can also be used manage:

  1. your persoanl to-do list
  2. your shopping list,
  3. trip
  4. holiday activities.

Its usefulness is only limited by your imagination. The next time that you need a tool to manage something, give Trello a try.

How can we rename a board?

  • Click on the Trello logo in the top center part of the screen.
  • Click on the board that you want to rename. This will display this board.
  • Click on the name of the board in the top left corner of the screen.

How can we rename a list or column?

  • Click on the Trello logo in the top center part of the screen.
  • Click on the board that you want to work with. This will display this board.
  • Click on the name of the column that you want to rename.
  • Change the name of the column and click on the Rename button.

What can we use Trello for?

How can we create a new board?

  1. Click on the plus sign in the top right corner of the screen
  2. Click on "Create Board"

List can be organized by dragging and dropping.

How can we add cards or tasks to a list?

How can we create multiple tasks from a existing list?

If you have an list of tasks already exist somewhere, you can just copy it, and paste it into a new Trello card, and hit the Enter key. Trello will automatically create multiple cards.

How can we prioritize tasks?

Each task is a card, and cards can be rearrange by dragging and dropping. You can organize tasks however you like. I typically put high priority task at the top.

How can we add friends to a board?

You can add your friends whoever volunteered to help you by clicking on the "Add Member" control. If your friend is already on Trello, you can just type their names. If you do not know whether your friend is already on Trello, you can type his / her email address.

How can we display the right side menu?

If you have previously hidden the right side menu, you can click on the "Show Menu" control in the top right corner.

How can we remove a team member from a board?

If you have administration right for the board, when the right side menu is visible, it displays an icon for each team member. You can click on the team member that you want to remove, and click on the appropriate item in the drop-down menu.

How can we assign a task to team members?

We can assign task to team member by dragging their icons from the right side menu and drop them onto the appropriate task. We can assign multiple team members to a card.

Can we assign a team member to a task even before he or she sign up for Trello?

Yes. If he or she is not already on Trello, the right side menu will display an icon with just his or her initial. You can drag and drop his / her icon onto appropriate task even before he / she sign up for Trello.

How can we add checklist, due date, or attachment to a task?

You can edit a task by clicking on it, and the popup display buttons for adding checklist, due date, and attachments on the right. We can also assign team members to this task from this screen.

How can we delete or archive a card?

To delete or archive a card, click on the card, and then click on the Archive button in the lower right hand corner.

How can we subscribe ourselves to a card?

Subscribing to a card or task is different from being assigned to that task. When you are assigned to a task, you are responsible for completing that task. When you subscribe yourself to a card, you get notified of activities that happened to that card.

To subscribe yourself to a card, click on the card, and click on the Subscribe button on the bottom right hand corner.

How can we add due date to a card quickly?

You can put the mouse over the card and press the d key.

How can we quickly upload a file as attachment to a card or task?

You can drag a file from your local computer and drop it onto the appropriate card.

What happen if we drag an image and drop it on to a card?

Trello will display it as part of the card.

How can we apply labels to a card?

Labels can be created and applied to cards. Labels can be used as a way to tag a card. To create a label, first click on the card that you want to work with, and then click on the "Labels" button on the right hand side.

How can we remove labels from a card?

  1. Click on the card
  2. Trello displays a list of applied labels at the top. Click on the appropriate control in the top to remove appropriate label.

How can we quickly apply labels to cards?

Every label has an associated hot key (from 1 to 9). Place your mouse over on each card and press the appropriate hot key.

How can we change the board settings?

  1. Unhide the right side menu by click on the "Show menu" control in the top right hand corner
  2. Click on "More"
  3. Click on "Settings"

How can we filter cards?

We can filter cards based on applied labels or assigned team member. Just click on the appropriate label or team member. We can also filter card based on due date. Just click on the appropriate control.

What are Power-Ups?

Power-Ups are ways to enhance Trello. By default, Trello comes with 3 Power-Ups:

  1. Calendar: This allows you to view all your cards in a calendar view. In this view, we can also drag and drop cards, and the due date is automatically updated. This is handy if we have to assign due date to multiple cards quickly. In the calendar view, Trello also allow us to sync this calendar with other Calendar. Basically you can get the URL for this calendar so that you can import this calendar into Google Calendar, etc. separately. With this, you can see your Trello tasks on your Google Calendar, your Outlook Calendar, or whatever calendar software you use.
  2. Card Aging: Give the cards a faded looking as they go untouched. This is a quick way to locate tasks that may have been fallen off-track or off-the-crack.
  3. Voting: This for voting as a way to get feedback from your team.

  3. Click on the appropriate Power-Ups that you want to use.
